have y’all ever seen this sad ass movie with Vivien Leigh called Waterloo Bridge? it’s so beautiful and I’d love to watch it again but I think my heart would collapse
Yes! Leigh and Taylor both said it was their personal favorite of all the films they made in their later years.
Have the seen the Pre-Code version that James Whale directed? Less romantically heartbreaking but still great.
The Whale version makes the fact that she's become a prostitute more explicit because Pre-Code. But the Leigh version leans hard into the tragic romantic aspects of the story, so they're both very good. I haven't seen the version with Leslie Caron.
That's why her Blanche and Anna Karenina are so damn good as well! She was truly one of the screen's master translators of Tennessee Williams' writing. I wish Orson Welles got his wish and she played Lady Macbeth opposite him in the movie. Alas, he was afraid she's say no.
