Unless one has a form of proportional voting (which I endorse), there will always likely be a decent mismatch between vote and seats won share. Single member electorate systems are not intended to produce proportionate electoral results.
And allowing the public to vote once every X years and then largely excluding them from government is hardly the apotheosis of democracy to begin with.
