Most of the land upon which McCormick Works once sat is disused and unmaintained, but about a third of the site was turned into the country's largest urban solar installation in 2010. At the time, early in solar adoption, that single installation tripled the solar capacity of the state of Illinois.

Wow, that article says there are over 1500 megawatts of solar in the state, as of September 2022. As of Q1 of this year, it’s almost double that, at 2948. (Guessing that a lot of the recent growth is thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, aka Biden’s major climate legislation.)
