Fun newt fact, or rather "newt" fact:
"A newt" used to be "an ewte", but the "n" jumped across thanks to rebracketing (misdivision, reanalysis, etc.)*
Its Old English etymon, "eft", now refers more narrowly to the juvenile terrestrial stage.
