Actions like this oppose the normalization of uncritical support of the government. Burning a flag gives permission to others to raise their voices in whatever ways they choose.
And: people who get offended at symbolic actions will never be reliable allies in any case.
i do not think it normalizes anything, if the act had persuasive power in the us i wouldn’t be against it but theres a reason that hostile media runs with these images and effective at using them to turn away from support
It's also a good rallying point for socialists, anarchists, really anyone anti-nationalist to find each other and maybe not be all catty to each other.
I get the point, and I do think there's room for appealing to people who are put off by radicalism, while also energizing the people who inherently reject the status quo because they can see how rotten it is. Both groups exist, and you can gently nudge the former while firing up the latter.
Right the trick is finding the balance between those two without becoming too insular, which i think anyone whos involved in leftist groups can attest have a habit of becoming overly insular
Just remember that one it's a proper movement with a real party formation, the two of you aren't allowed to end public conversations on common ground like this.
