I kind of hate that a few months ago I was in a conversation with a 20-something medical professional and something made me quote Parker and it turned out they had never heard of the Algonquin Round Table or Benchley or Woollcott or Sherwood or Ross or any of them, really.

I didn't learn about them until I was in my 20s either, what a delight to be able to introduce someone to something they might potentially love!

I tried, got that raised eyebrow what-is-this-old-guy going on about look from them,* but maybe I planted a seed. And I’m sure they could have quoted contemporary authors/ poets etc and I would have drawn a blank. *very chatty nurse with musical side hustle, attending to my wife’s medical needs
