There's something prescient about the ethical non monogamy parts of The Mandarins being by far the most tedious. (This is a 1,000 page book that's mostly people fighting about which socialist newspaper to write for)

Of course the book is frequently brilliant too in its depiction of real moral seriousness in the face of an open, contested political moment
