Importing this @volts.wtf thread from the bad place. It opens with a link to a piece that used official data to establish that yes, crime rates are indeed very much down recently. But here’s the thing, Project 2025’s Trump 2.0 promises to destroy that world in which we can “know” things like this.
It's precisely what was done in other totalitarian states. Venezuela has been arresting people for trying to report honest stats for nearly 20 years now. Hell, in around 2007 they arrested people for even taking pictures of overcrowded Caracas morgues that belied their bullshit crime stats.
Dipshit tankies would still use the obviously useless stats anyway, just like MAGA loyalists will parrot Trump's stats even after experts are arrested for publishing counter-narratives.
