I watched a Canadian reporter interview Kiefer once & he asked him about Tommy Douglas, stupidly assuming he wouldn’t know about his own grandfather, & instead Kiefer not only knew all about his accomplishments but was very proud of him

Yeah, he went on Inside the Actor's studio and when James asked him something to the effect of "your grandfather was the architect of Canada's healthcare system" "yeah, the one that works? That's him"

Damn he did not have to go that hard

Yes! And- Everything should watch Ordinary People. Such a heart rending, gorgeous, nuanced performance.

Or Kelly’s Heroes. Ignore everyone, including Clint, but watch Donald and Don Rickles. Oddball, a character twenty five years ahead of his time. Probably would have been besties with Donald’s M*A*S*H movie Hawkeye.

He played Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor considered a hero in China, in two separate productions. RIP

Drinking tonight In honor of his insane performance in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I’m still terrified of that film.

I never saw the film at the time, but recently I watched all of the “body snatcher” films, and that really great film was totally anchored by his performance. What a film, what a performance!

As for me, I hope I never ever see a flash of bright red in Venice, especially around the Museo di Palazzo Grimani….
