The depiction of Godzilla's destruction was almost gleeful.

The first time I saw that film I was very confused by Ghidorah being a good guy. It was pretty dark though; Final Wars was serious camp.

How dark compared to the last two Japan films?

Very different. Godzilla Minus One at least views ordinary Japanese people recovering from the war as capable of extraordinary heroism.

Yeah, that's hella dark.
