New hearing up on the enforcement of NYC's Fair Workweek Law: citymeetings.nyc/city-council... - The most common violation? Failing to post schedules in advance. - DCWP recovered $12MM in worker relief in 2023. - DCWP is currently investigating 76 complaints across 56 Starbucks stores.

New meeting up: citymeetings.nyc/city-council.... (This is the new UI!) A hearing on regulating helicopter noise. EDC came unprepared. Lots of resident and advocate testimony (in particular from Stop the Chop).

The citymeetings dot nyc newsletter hit 100 subscribers today, a nice little milestone for a site that highlights city council meetings.

New UX is out today for citymeetings dot nyc. It's optimized so long, dense hearings are easy to skim, it works on mobile, and it's now the default meeting view. A fantastic way to see it in action is to skim through the 7-hour hearing on City of Yes for Economic Opportunity.

This week's citymeetings newsletter will be a special edition entirely focused on last week's 7-hour hearing on City of Yes's Zoning for Economic Opportunity. I'll extract specific points, claims, and questions, and link folks to 1- to 5-minute segments.

Got a mention in NYC Data this morning and it combines my love for the botanic gardens with getting LLMs to watch city meetings.

I’m posting my annotated slides from my NYC School of Data talk on Friday. This is the presentation I wanted to see before I started citymeetings.nyc — a real demonstration of what it takes to coax LLMs into doing something useful well enough, consistently, for a practical use case. Stay tuned!

Really could've used this when I was researching my last 2 books! The city site is almost unreadable. FYI for fellow NYCers:
I'm launching citymeetings.nyc today. It’s a vastly easier way to browse and research NYC council meetings. It'll be kept up-to-date with 2024's meetings. You can sign up for the newsletter for meeting highlights and updates on tools I'm developing every 1-2 weeks.

Up now on citymeetings.nyc -- The city council meeting where the council overrode the mayor's vetoes of the How Many Stops Act and the bill banning solitary confinement. I should have 2024's meetings up in the next few days.

I launched citymeetings.nyc recently. It's an easier way to navigate NYC city council meetings. I'll be bringing it up-to-date with all city council meetings in 2024, and plan to add community board and planning meetings in the future.

I wrote about why you should regularly and systematically evaluate your LLM results. You'll improve your LLM pipelines faster, build a fine-tuning dataset along the way, and improve your intuition around using LLMs. It is unreasonably effective & you should do it. vikramoberoi.com/why-you-shou...
