Back in 2011 I got to see the primary mirror for the @vrubinobs.bsky.social in the optical shop at the University of Arizona. It is difficult to tell from my photo at left but the inner region is more steeply curved than the outer. Look how beautiful it is today! How it started & How It Is Going 🔭

Today marks another project milestone with the application of the silver coating to the @vrubinobs.bsky.social mega 8.4-metre primary/tertiary mirror. 7 years in the making, this one-of-a-kind primary/tertiary mirror is made up of two optical surfaces, combined into one large structure. #astronomy
