I’ve been forced to sign non-competes for IT roles. Even if you get laid off the former employer can hold you to their non-compete for up to 2 years. Can’t get much more unfair than that.

TWICE for me. One time they tried to bump it to 3yrs. It’s funny how the bootstraps thing is mentioned & land of opportunity, until it means a corporation treating a worker with a minimum amount of respect
