Hey it’s Juneteenth!
Juneteenth marks the date that the Emancipation Proclamation (made 1863) reached Texas on June 19th, 1865, freeing the enslaved there months after the end of the Civil War. It would still take the 14th amendment (ratified 1868) to provide citizenship to formerly enslaved folks.
