Something about muralism as a revolutionary movement to make art public, too large to individually own and collect and hoard, anyway, there's a little side door at SFMOMA where you can peer in and still see Diego Rivera's Pan-American Unity mural
When I lived in L.A. I took pictures of a thousand L.A. murals and put the pictures up in a web site (and now an academic archive). I have gotten every conceivable type of complaint about why I should not have taken pictures of public art.
