I would not suggest self-sufficiency for any young person who does not live in the Finnish Northeast, if they have climate anxiety.
You have to be very tough if you want to make it in the local community. I was not so at first but learned it from the rescue and military people I met.
The stuff I’m doing is three times more difficult especially in the winter compared to what the law school fly fishing boys did by paying a guide in a foreing country.
I have nothing like the challenges you guys need work with, but even here in temperate Aotearoa, barely a fraction of us could be within binocular sight of self reliance in the landscape, not least because of our hidden, insidious micronutrient-deficient soils.
Sufficiency is like that, learning how to not worry about external things and people.
Or to be afraid of them, or your own feelings of social status. In the country side people look at you and want to help out if there are issues.
