My mother in law has a history of giving us... unexpected gifts. The most recent included a bottle of lab-made absynth called Labsynth, and I decided to try it today, along with those probiotic pills that make alcohol not poison you.
It's surprisingly smooth, but the throat burn comes in waves :)
