I hate when people say that the world is round. They’re wrong!
Earth is an oblate spheroid. I won’t have people denying the impact of the centrifugal force created by the earth’s rotation which causes it to bulge toward the equator. 🌍 🌎 🌏
If the Earth were the size of a basketball, the oblateness of the spheroid would be about 1/30 inches (about .9 mm) in the diameter. Unless you're dealing with optics, this is as close to perfect as has any meaning.
if i'm interpreting ball bearing tolerance charts correctly, the earth is more spherical than an average ball bearing (engineers feel free to correct me). you could put several very small earths in a transmission or motor and it would operate just fine.
I had a physics teacher in highschool tell us that when people talk about “centrifugal force”, what they’re really talking about is centripetal acceleration. Funny the stuff that sticks in your brain for decades. No idea if he was correct. 🤷♂️
