Holy shit. This is gonna be a damn game changer.
New blood test is for people who previously had cancer. It detects breast cancer's return up to 3-and-a-half years before the disease shows up on follow-up scans. How many women do I know who would have survived if they had this option?

Real talk: this immediately made me think of my mother and what might’ve happened if this had existed then. But then I think about the pain other might be spared, the lives saved, the years gifted. And my goodness, I want that for everyone.

seriously! one of two unfindable friends from high school was named John Adams the other was sure she’d die by thirty from that stuff because all her women ancestors had 😿

Same. And now MRNA cancer vaccines tailored to one's individual scenario are being trialed. If they prove to be effective the overall battle might soon be won.

Been a busy few days for remarkable medical announcements: this; a fast saliva test for prostate cancer; a drug that can regrow teeth (!). I was saying just last week to a friend that medicine in twenty years' time will make our current state look like leeches and humours. It may not take twenty....

Wait, what? I missed the teeth drug!!!

It'll be medical tricorders, feinberger sensors, and sickbay beds that make pleasing bassy "dhum" sounds in time to your heartbeat before we know it.

I am really stoked about how many more vaccines the mRNA vaccine technology is likely to unlock.

There's a quote (I now can't find) from a medical expert in the 19th century (?) stating that operations within the chest and head would be 'forever out of reach'. ...Next week doctors get a routine picture of my brain.

It's astounding these days. Just -- just! -- the advances being made in mRNA vaccines based on research provoked by the pandemic are remarkable. The one wasp in the medical marmalade is capitalism; specifically the inertia against developing new antibiotics because they're insufficiently profitable.

Between this, the potential to have an all-strain vaccine, advances made on figuring out what causes and can treat MS... as shitty as the world has been the last few years, we also seem to be in an age of medical marvels and advancement. It's so wonderful to see.

Exactly! There's a lot of good reasons people are really sour on "tech" news (ie "AI" garbage), but the medical tech and the massive improvements in green energy in the past 5 years have been staggering!

It will be a damned shame when half of the country rejects the science.

I think, right now, we choose joy. Instead of pissing in the cornflakes and saying it’s milk.

Just sent that to Mom. 💜

I thought immediately of mine. 💜💜

Going to see if my neighbour has seen that info, too. She's only a few months past a double mastectomy, awaiting a hysterectomy, and lost her mom to breast cancer (family has the gene).

That is really good of you to do!

Soothly, we live in mighty years.

I hope it helps so many people.

There’s also the potential, now this this is proven, for it to expand laterally to provide early warning for other things, with continually expanding benefits. Science may not always seem fast enough, but it never ceases to amaze! Scientists unraveling these mysteries for all our benefit!
