I can understand drawing.. drawing makes sense. Smooth lines are natural. I just can’t wrap my head around how people make pixel art. Like.. do you start with a smooth line and dot the outline? Is it a brush? Help

What I really want personally are good tutorials on doing pixel art without outlines. I've gotten better slowly overtime, but I often feel like I'm shootin' in the dark :(((
