Incredible, but I can believe that. I can almost picture them with their ruler saying "Well, technically it's not inside the BS-defined splash zone. Wire it up, lads!"
We had the gas meter *right underneath the kitchen sink* in a house built in 1999
As in "will probably be shorted if there's a leak in the sink waste water pipe" underneath
And the gas pipe to the boiler ran along the floor underneath the washing machine and dishwasher
When we renovated the kitchen the poor lads were genuinely kind of shocked
I can easily imagine that it's pretty progressive, I only know that my Serbian builder never failed to make this one exact joke about BS having two meanings.
Remember under English Building regs, a third of the way through building your own house you have to get pregnant and be visibly close to popping near the end of the project
