in 1986—peak AIDS crisis; only 6 months after reagan admitted AIDS was real—the NYT ran a william f buckley op-ed calling for all HIV+ people to be tattooed on the arm & the ass for the greater good anyone giving the NYT the benefit of the doubt about trans coverage: this is who they’ve always been

My dad was recently reading a biography of Buckley, I’ll have to ask if they mentioned the time he called on the government to forcibly tattoo undesirables.

i actually like this tidbit more. it makes me less sad.
random fact about william f buckley to go with this skeet is that, when the guy behind the 1980s gi joe toys & comics was told he needed a villain figurehead, he modeled cobra commander after the most loathsome person he could think of—william f buckley. buckley is still a hero to today’s gop.
