For these reasons, past generations of US elites have sought to preserve at least the *illusion* of a fair system of laws. But the mask is fully off now.
It limited the govt's ability to obtain convictions for behavior beyond conduct that impairs the availability/integrity of evidence. I'm OK with limiting the govt's ability to sweep all sorts of activity under "obstruction." So was Justice Jackson, the Court's only former criminal defense attorney.
