Our N=273 MRI study on visual imagery is up on BioRxiv. Employing graph theory analyses, we investigate structural and functional connectomes and find that vivid imagery is supported by networks optimized for localized information transfer. #skuldnet
Why can some people conjure images in their mind's eye with stunning clarity, while others experience a blank mind? 🧠✨ Our preprint provides a look at the brain's network dynamics and how they influence visual imagery vividness. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... #Neuroscience #VisualImagery

In 1986, my (deceased) father created this 50x70cm composition about the work I was carrying out at Carnegie Mellon, where I was studying recurrent networks, including the “Jordan sequential network” featured here. I didn’t know about this until I stumbled upon the piece cleaning up his workshop.

1/3 Many papers I'm handling as editor will have been rejected elsewhere. It is such a massive waste of time (mine, prior reviews, future reviews). If you are submitting a previously rejected manuscript to me, feel free to add prior reviews and tell me how you addressed them.

paper mill papers will increasingly make up "knowledge" in LLMs, especially as LLMs increasingly write those papers themselves and in less obviously predatory places (including preprint servers). so humans will be needed to label these as "not trustworthy". we still need human experts!
How large is science's fake-paper problem? Massive, finds a new ML text-analysis by Adam Day (Clear Skies). It suggests paper mills rise to 1.5-2% of all papers; 3% in biomed. That's 70,000 papers last year alone, >400,000 overall. As a 'conservative estimate'. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

So happy to see this as a preprint 🔥 It was a pleasure to work with and learn from @matthiasmichel.bsky.social Stephan Goerttler @meganakpeters.bsky.social and @axc.bsky.social
New paper: we're getting close to showing unconscious perception with a non-biased (2IFC) visibility task, using both metacontrast masking and super fast presentations (980 micro(!!)-seconds) using a modern-day tachistoscope (shown here). Preprint here: osf.io/preprints/ps...

I'm pretty much giving up on the app formerly known as Twitter. It has really been degraded as a way to keep up with informed discourse, and I don't want to be an unpaid content provide for Musk. Will start posting wonkery here, maybe also on Threads

Upgrade your Bluesky experience with this one simple move
Folks, this is a usability game-changer. Turn it on! In your settings -> Thread Preferences. Turns the threading of post replies into a reddit-like structure instead of twitter-like. *SO* much easier to navigate and read without having to backtrack and re-click replies to unlock threads.
