lately I've been slipping towards an ukrainish-yiddish affect and this is not helping me beat that (it's so much funnier)

Me too! My people were from Ukraine, Poland, and to some extent Russia (Galitzianers).

I don't think there've been any vos redn yiddish in the last few generations on either side, but I have but a few galitzianers in the generations I know anything about, so a shakier claim to sliding ukrainish

1. Still thinking about this film, particularly the accents. A lot of characters had accents I would think of as gemisht - and I don't mean "Ukrainian Yiddish is a mix of the other two etc etc", I mean there was one character who pronounced אַרײַן as "araan", and in the next sentence, ווײַט as "vayt".

I try to remind myself that my English vowels come piecemeal from a handful of different U.S dialects, and the degree to which that's such a normal thing can be really hard to see when you're in a language learning space, or using a minoritized heritage language, or in many of our cases both!
