“On this St. Patrick’s Day… we are appealing to the conscience of Irish America. We ask Irish Americans in their capacity as citizens, as members of cultural and benevolent societies, as political leaders, to use their influence to avert a Famine as severe as the one faced by their ancestors.”
Great Irish Famine historians issue St. Patrick's Day statement on Gazawww.irishcentral.com A group of historians is urging Irish Americans to use their influence to avert a Famine in Gaza as severe as the one faced by their Irish ancestors.

One thing I always mention when I teach on the Great Hunger is that the Choctaw First Nation sent $170 for famine relief in Ireland. They had recently experienced starvation in the 'Trail of Tears' and wanted to help another people who were suffering similarly.

English hasbara in 1845: “But you can still buy whisky and butter in Londonderry, no way people are starving!”

And both were manufactured by a colonialist power

The world’s most prominent Irish American politician has already said we’re building a port to receive aid

They don't have two months to wait for it to be finished Yes, it'll make things easier once the pier is done, but until then, trucks need to be able to get in, and people can't live in fear of being attack when trying to actually get to the aid

A *lot* of people are set to starve to death before then if the situation doesn't improve in the meantime. 60 days is a long time in a famine.

Social media does bring a special sort of person who's first response to "we should relieve the suffering of hundreds of thousands a little" with "what about this much smaller group, that is almost certainly included".

People are dying right now, who won't be saved by a half measure that won't be ready for another 2 months.

There's a clear hypocrisy between us supporting Israel, and also us blundering to stem the damage from their hamfisted attack (utterly predictable by the way if one looks back in history), so one can understand why a diy port feels... underwhelming this late in the game

You're a rube or a liar. Dunno which but it's definitely one.

Building a port to steal and ship gas resources from Palestinians to send to Europe. No one can land enough aid at any port. It's all bullshit.
