Spent a rainy weekend working on the blog from our recent trip. It's not done yet, but here are some bike signs we saw: 1. A multi-use path on Martha's Vineyard adopted by Sam's Sidekicks 2. A closed bike ferry 😪 3. Bikes were priority in Provincetown 4. Acadia National Park carriage roads

Still in denial that vacation is coming to an end. We crammed three separate destinations in 7 days. It might take the rest of the summer to update the blog, but here is a preview: Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod and Acadia National Park. 1/2

We saw a lot of beautiful things yesterday but nothing more beautiful than this saddle bag sitting atop a bench at a bus stop an hour after we forgot it. We were day tripping and it had our valuables. The extra 12km to back track to find it might have been a personal best for me.

Bike packing isn't always glamourous! Hoping the rain passes as the forecast predicts and our trip gets a bit easier from now on.

We are spending #WorldBicycleDay getting ready for a trip that involves work, cycling and camping. It makes packing hard! Cycling is by far our favourite way to travel and we are excited to explore some new places!

I found myself in Dartmouth this morning, on the 10th anniversary of Johanna Dean’s death, so I stopped to pay my #BikeHfx respects. 1/2

Started a new account to better reflect my day to day views! @beactivelikev.bsky.social is really meant to share experiences and encourage others to be active (and to share our blog). But sometimes I have other things I want to say - usually about cycling in Halifax or oceanography!

Taking this sunny day to bike some new sections of the Harvest Moon Trail. So far from Annapolis Royal to Bridgetown it's been like biking at the beach. The views are nice but the sand is not! Wish us luck for the rest of the way to Kingston.

Found this relic of V and her girls heading out for a bike ride back in the 90s.

A failed marketplace transaction, but a beautiful day for a bike ride.

We had booked another weekend at this amazing cabin at Fundy National Park (Feb 10-12, Sat-Mon), but we can no longer make it. I will cancel our booking tonight but if anyone wants it, please send us a direct message! beactivelikev.ca/2022/03/14/w...
Winter Trip to Fundy National Parkbeactivelikev.ca A winter vacation to Fundy National Park where we stayed in a rustic cabin with no electricity or running water.

Rode our bikes in Canberra for a week while visiting family in Australia. Did 150km to see major attractions in the city and hardly had to go on a road. Such a treat to ride on well connected, complete, easy to navigate bike infrastructure. Fyi Canberra has about the same population as Halifax. 1/2

Halisky was lit last night! The highest turnout for an #ILightHFX ever. Best of all, it was a true all ages and abilities ride through the streets. Kudos to the Halifax Cycling Coalition and all the supporters for a celebration of comunity cycling in all its glory!

Great night out at "I💡HFX", safety in numbers making it a bit easier to explore the city by bike after dark for a change.

Another #BikeHfx event in a couple weeks. I Light HFX 2021 was our first group ride ever. We've joined so many more since then! Bike decoration to start soon. cyclehalifax.ca/i-light-hali...

First trail ride in far too long. The colours are full but still beautiful.

#KidicalMassHfx is for everyone: today we had someone join us who hadn't been on a bike in more than 50 years; and someone else who had just turned old enough to ride inside the family cargo bike!
It’s wild to bike on the same streets as you did as a kid and think about how different things might be now if #KidicalMassHfx existed 30 years ago. It’s eye-opening to see ~150 people on bikes trying to get across 6 lanes of Robie St. It’s heartwarming to see so much BikeHfx community show up!

This looks like such a great family trip for anyone in Southern Ontario.
In August my family did an 8-day bike camping trip in Southern Ontario, completely car-free. We left our home in Toronto and my parents left their home in Niagara on bikes, and we did this lovely loop along the shore of Lake Erie. A thread about our trip! www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/e...

Found a new use for a bike lock today. Thanks to Gran Fondo Baie Saint Marie for a great ride today! We were both supposed to do 67km, but one of us missed a turn and accidentally did 102km. His finish line comment "that felt long". (No he does not use a GPS)
End of feed.
