Heat and hills and no safe infrastructure (this neighbourhood mostly doesn’t even have sidewalks), but folks still showed up for #KidicalMassHfx today in Dartmouth. Watching the littles, I am reminded that the “constraints” around cycling in Halifax are in the imaginations of the decision makers.

Can we please stop referring to multiuse paths as bike lanes? It’s obviously a way for NIMBYs to object to any active transportation infrastructure. MUPs absolutely do not belong in the city centre, but if we’re going to have them can we at least acknowledge that they benefit a wide variety of folks

It was a heck of a lot of fun, if very hot. But we managed, and we did it! See you all at the next one!]

Today's #KidicalMassHfx ride was our hottest one yet. It was 33 degrees with the humidex when we ended the ride around 11:00am at the Shubie Park pump track. En route, we rested in shady spots while the group caught up; we shortened the ride to beat the heat (and some of the hills). 1/3

Lots of #BikeHfx kids worked really hard to get up the suburban hills today: sometimes biking & sometimes walking! We had prizes, stickers, and snacks for all of them waiting at the end of the ride. And thanks to @bikehfxlobby.bsky.social's freezer and cooler bag, we had ice-cold drinks too! 2/3

A very nice change to the route was this recently installed curb cut to the trail. Curb cuts like these help more people of varying ability enjoy our parks and trails.

We had quite the #KidicalMassHFX adventure today as we explored a new route in Dartmouth. The route was mostly based on @stmack.bsky.social's bike bus route so it was only fitting that we had a Hali- Dartmouth bike bus to get there.
