15 years ago, sometime in the month of July, in a barn in North Carolina, this absolute Queen was born. Happy birthday, Mazu!

We were invaded by kittens for late night snacks tonight. I am unable to resist their cuteness and bar them entry. I CANNOT DO IT.

Achievement unlocked! Last year, my friend Jen and I made a pact to enter poetry in the Alameda County Fair. We both barely made the deadline in May . . . but we achieved matching silver ribbons! I think we can safely add "poet" to our writer resumes, now.

Rad Na from Chai Thai Noodles in Hayward! This wide rice-noodle dish comes with Chinese broccoli and cabbage in a luscious, soothing gravy. I opted for the tofu and was quite pleased.

A few savory treats from Bread Belly in SF! Loved it all, but especially the spring onion bun. It's a totally cute bakery that fuses Asian flavors with California freshness and I could eat it all.

East Bay Spice Company has amazing cocktails, and don't sleep on their tikka masala flatbread!! I have to give props to the Achari Margarita, which was such a vibrant drink boosted by the garam masala rim. The cucumber shrub and lime cooled that sweet heat very well.
