The good news abt the #GraniteFire is that it's v near the Columbia airport (where many fire planes seem to live), and a reservoir so the copters can dip for more water readily. LOTS of aircraft on this one!

omg look at this (I’ll be back - had a “big hike-training hike” that I want to share with you)

#GraniteFire new start. It's 107 in Mariposa, so it's not great in Coulterville, I imagine. 😬

Highly recommend entering this giveaway or just buying an Aranet! I bought one last year during a good sale, and it has been absolutely fascinating to see its readings at different places and times.
Here’s a video I’ve been meaning to put together explaining how to use CO2 monitors to gauge COVID risk. If you’d like to own this great public health tool, Aranet have kindly offered to collaborate on a GIVEAWAY! To win an Aranet4 indoor air quality monitor, check the YouTube video description.

Here’s why people can create wild species domestic cat hybrids that need much more space, exercise and are more likely to hurt you than the people that buy them expect. Please don’t buy wild-domestic hybrid cats. They are challenging. Started off interesting biology, ended on a soap box.
The earliest cat (Family: Felidae) was likely Proailurus (Greek: 'before'+'cat'), dated to about 30 MYA in the late Oligocene. Some species were a little larger than a house-cat (20 lbs/9 kg), while others were bobcat-sized (50 lbs, 23 kg). Fossils are found Spain to Siberia. (📷: Mauricio Antón)

The emu pics look 100% like dinosaur illustrations. WOW, they're big!
I think I've shared most of my Boolcoomatta shots. But here are some from the camera trap which I set up at a puddle near the camping ground. Nothing exciting but interesting to see what came in for a drink (red kangaroos and emus). 🪶 #birds

I saw these on Baranof Island, Alaska, yesterday. Round-leaved sundew, *Drosera rotundifolia*.
Australia has more than 250 species of sundews (drosera). I love taking photos of these carnivorous plants and now, through to spring, is the best time to find them. These sundews were at Spring Gully Conservation Park yesterday.

Out and about in Oslo’s Nordmarka forest for the first time this year. Taking it absurdly slowly as my health still isn’t 100% but there is a growing feeling of wellbeing surrounded by nature again.

I found this beetle trapped in an abandoned spider web and freed it, because it was essentially in the spider equivalent of a ghost net. Also, it was a very cool beetle - a rugose stag beetle, Sinodendron rugosum.

Radio transmission for #FrenchFire just said "Fire contained." I'm assuming they mean as a whole. Woo-hoooo!!! 🥳🥳🥳
