I know some people say that questioning details about horrific stories is a way of downplaying or denying the horror, but it’s really not: wartime propaganda is corrosive and insidious and a tool for manipulation, and truth is worth caring about even in the face of utter tragedy.
So yesterday, a lot of ppl shared a claim that 40 Israeli babies were decapitated at Kfar Aza, a kibbutz near Gaza. Here’s a bit of insight about how we approach a claim like that as reporters: 1) Figure out where the claim was coming from. In this case, it was a single Israeli TV reporter.
