The new @forteantimes.bsky.social is out and has my regular Haunted Generation column. Adam S Leslie, Orbury Common, Shropshire Number Stations, Scholars of the Peak, Grey Malkin & Fogroom, the Electric Flea Show, British Stereo Collective and the ace Hob's Barrow computer game. Thumbs aloft!

Forty years ago today. Three days until we left primary school forever, so we "sorted out our trays". A year's worth of schoolwork, stories and drawings chucked in the bin, and a crumpled bag of aniseed balls and four Berol Notewriter pens squirelled away in my pockets. Sigh.

Forty years ago today. Final week of primary school, and a wonderful jolly to York. Singing 'Relax' and 'Two Tribes' all the way down, and Ian Oswald pointed out that Clifford's Tower was where Roland Rat once pushed Kevin the Gerbil down a hill. Photos to follow...

Some news... our next Mulgrave Audio drama is in the can, and we're thrilled to say it has been narrated by TV legend Valerie Singleton! We had a wonderful day in the studio with Valerie, and have more exciting news to follow... soon.

Written loads for the new @electronicsound.bsky.social. Interviews with weirdy duo Orbury Common, the ace Walt Disco and the Radiophonic Workshop's own Paddy Kingsland! Plus a little chat with Jodie Nicholson, and the Album of the Month review - nice one Andrew Wasylyk and Tommy Perman. Out now!

Forty years ago today. Watching Battlestar Galactica and refusing to move while my grumpy Dad actually laid the new carpet around me. "7.00 I went out" was me and Doug trespassing in a farmer's field and climbing all over his haystacks. No harm done, it's a housing estate now anyway.

Forty years ago today. Leslie Browns was a sensational toy shop in Stockton and Mr Brackenbury was a neighbour selling his carpets before moving to Australia. He owned a St Bernard dog called Ria, who I always suspected was named after Wendy Craig's character in Butterflies.

Forty years ago today. I was dreading the Sex Education films, the thought of my teachers actually talking about "DOING IT" was just horrific. Thankfully the all-day cricket match afterwards was a perfect slice of sun-baked childhood heaven. Thanks, Mr Hirst.

The Mulgrave Journal is back in stock! Our 48-page zine has interviews, short stories, an exclusive map of Fellfoul and lots more. We've ordered another print run of 50 copies - grab one here, and we'll post them during the week as soon as they arrive. mulgraveaudio.bandcamp.com/merch/mulgra...

Forty years ago today. Me: "This is amazing! The petrol station is burning down! I've never seen a building actually catch fire before!!!" Mum: "Get back you stupid sod, there's 10,000 gallons of petrol under that forecourt"

Forty years ago today. Very excited about Hole In My Shoe being in the charts! I think this was genuinely the beginning of my ongoing love affair with psychedelic music. Also - does anyone know which liquid turns blue when you heat it?

New! On the Haunted Generation site... a charming chat with Oliver Cherer about the lost medieval town of Dunwich, and how it inspired his beautiful @claypipemusic.bsky.social album, Gilden Gate. Plus rotting mannequins, vanishing monks etc. From @electronicsound.bsky.social...
Oliver Cherer, Gilroy Mere and Gilden Gatehauntedgeneration.co.uk Oliver Cherer IS Gilroy Mere. And new album Gilden Gate is his latest melancholy celebration of a place that no longer exists

It's hard getting stuff "out there" these days. We're trying to build a little Mulgrave Audio world of vintage weirdness. If you've enjoyed our stuff, maybe consider an RT, a share, a Bandcamp review, anything like that? It all helps enormously - thanks. mulgraveaudio.bandcamp.com

Forty years ago today. Guest appearance on the Little and Large Show from Roy "Spook" Jay, who had already become a minor sensation in our school playground. I was saving up for prison pyjamas and a pair of white gloves. "You'll all be doing it tomorrow..." (and we were) #slither

If anyone wants to buy our Mulgrave Audio releases from an actual shop and save a few quid on postage, head to Who-Ray in Stockton - it's a great place and they now have both 'Simon Perkins' Lurgy' and 'Fellfoul' on sale. Here's Martin to prove it...

Forty years ago today. The 'Mysteries' we studied included the Loch Ness Monster, UFOs and the Bermuda Triangle but not - curiously - how we managed to get away with essentially doing bugger all at school every day.

A lovely day out in Holmfirth with Andrew T Smith, and we managed to round up 20 copies of our sold-out Summer Winos book from various shops. So it's now back in stock... just! Grab one here: bobfischer.bigcartel.com/product/summ...

Forty years ago today. Weary Valley was a little beauty spot of rustling trees and sparkling water, and this was a perfect Swallows And Amazons day. Me, Doug, Stan and Ramsey on a tiny dinghy in blazing sunshine, laughing all day without a care in the world.

Forty years ago today. "Got some mirror glasses from Littlewoods then we went to C&A and I got some luminous socks". 1984, right there. Ultra Quiz presented by David Frost and Willie Rushton, live from a frozen-looking beach in Normandy.

Forty years ago today. Tucker was a nice lad who I'm told now works as an airline pilot. Unconnected to the Spitfire I built, which was another Airfix model from some well-meaning relative. I don't like aeroplanes and I can't build anything, but apart from that - nice one.

Forty years ago today. I have since learned from friends in the profession that "silent reading" essentially means your teacher is very, very, very, very, very hungover. #fingersonlips

We only have 15 copies of the Mulgrave Journal Issue 1 left. Here are five of them, ready to go to anyone who wants them. Note tantalising glimpse of the back cover that gives us the heebie jeebies. Grab one here: mulgraveaudio.bandcamp.com/merch/mulgra...
