Forty years ago today. I have since learned from friends in the profession that "silent reading" essentially means your teacher is very, very, very, very, very hungover. #fingersonlips

Blimey, we had regular silent reading every morning one year, which was probably just preemptive! Now my mind is creating a whole backstory of drinking for that particular teacher, especially as I later heard she’d left her husband of several decades for a woman.

In a similar vein it took me a while to realise that on Radio 2 the full version of Layla = Ken Bruce having a dump.
