I think Shibari knots were originally developed for safely securing prisoners?? but it makes sense they began with sailors, they need life-or-death knots.
Mmm interesting. Idk anything about their origin but just recognized a lot of overlap (ie no self-tightening knots, bowlines / square knots / half-hitches, etc)
