That’s one of the good costumes.
As I understand it, it was intended as street clothes, originally, but the colorist didn’t know that. So they colored it bright red and blue and a costume was born.
No, but the one time he gets drawn by JLGL, it’s a shame it’s the single worst costume he ever had.
García-López makes it look as good as it possibly can, at least.
Two Superman artists drawing two Superman-like characters. It’s a reference more than a joke, but it had to be arranged with DC, since Swan and García-López were under contract. So Marvel wasn’t going to waste the opportunity having them draw the Living Laser or Tomazooma.
It's funny how everyone at Marvel treated Gladiator as Marvel's Superman. There wasn't even an attempt to hide it or be sneaky about it. Byrne was on the verge of becoming the #1 Superman guy and did a story about how Gladiator's (and therefore, Superman's) power works (Psionics!)
I'm all for that kind of "stunt" casting in the MCU for like Squadron Supreme or similar. If not that then if Gunn wants to do Crime Syndicate get people who played the heroes to now play the doppelgangers. But honestly... I think Cavill should play Doom. Specifically Kirby's Doom who has the scar.
