With self-labeling, you can now attach content warnings to your posts. We’ve started with the NSFW categories, but will expand them over time.
Press the “!” shield icon in the composer to add a label to your post.
'Explicit' seems like a better label for the third category than 'Porn'. An image that doesn't show an inch of skin could be pornographic if it's done right! Which doesn't seem like the kind of categorization you're trying to get at here.
Good point, thanks for calling that out. Porn feels a bit judgy as well, in time, as well as ambiguous. Explicit would convey the same categorization without the seemingly implied value judgment and ambiguity. Hope they agree and revise it.
Right, and even setting that aside, using the word porn in an official capacity could open the site up to legal complications. It's just not a great choice for several reasons
It’s all very subjective, but explicit is explicit… personally I’m not here for that, but the conversations - that’s where it’s at. This one is saucy. Great stuff.
I'll throw this request elsewhere too, but future idea is ability to turn off all images from showing, and even more so from downloading, not just hidden. Plenty of reasons to support low bandwidth needs, from rural connectivity to disasters.
I think they're referring to the fact that Bluesky, in its "full" form, won't be managed privately and monolithically, but as a federated network. In the context of a network of multiple authorities, private messaging between two accounts isn't as easy as adding a "DMs" table to a database.
your data isn't tied to any platform; you can move between platforms freely. everything is also really public, so suddenly you have to make specific user to user interactions private. I think a dev explained it in detail at some point

Now to wait for the Update that allows Direct Messaging, An add-on to Self-labeling that adds an option for spoilers, GIFs, & Posting of video clips...hopefully
