Want to follow some real formline artists ?
@telekitnetic.bsky.social (Wet'suwet'en)
@c-rberus.bsky.social (Tsimshian)
Those are two i know on bluesky, if you know more, please let me know.
i just saw a "Native Art" map of Canada (many likes) that was obviously a white person's attempt at formline, a visual language & family of art styles exclusive to Indigenous nations of the NORTHWEST COAST.
Looked up artist: sure enough, white lady
Fellow settlers, please stop doing this.
I have one of the original silkscreen prints of this salmon, which became the logo of DFO's Salmonid Enhancement Program. The artist is Art Sterritt (Gitxsan)
I also have a serious art-framing backlog 😬
That's so cool! The only thing of my grandmother's I asked for is a Japanese silkscreen she had. It's not worth a lot, I just really love the art so nobody is fighting me for it luckily. Just gotta clear up some wall space
Thanks for the shout out; I’d also like to recommend a couple other formline artists I know of (I don’t think they’re on Bsky but they’re still worth checking out)
Frettchan Studios (Nisga’a/Métis, frettchanstudios.ca) and Michelle Stoney (Gitxsan, www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Msto...)
