THE SUICIDE SQUAD is a really fun movie, BTW. I wouldn't have watched the original with that blocked person's eyes, but I ended up seeing the sequel, which was an absolute delight from start to finish.

It's a FANTASTIC film! Colorful, vulgar, great and inventive action, and surprising HEART. Gunn was firing on all cylinders with that one...I actually like it a bit better than any of the GoTG films, I think.

Straight up all of this. The poignancy at one point really affected me because of all the other things! Endless surprises.

Taking the time to actually shoot the scenes with Ratcatcher 1 and little baby Ratcatcher really took me right out. I legit CRIED. Casting Taika Waititi there was a great hack because he's so charming and earnest that they manage to communicate ALL THAT LOVE in just like 2-3 minutes of screen time.

Bloodsport's whole arc is similarly great...absentee Dad who insists he doesn't care about his child, seeing the relationship he never had in Ratcatcher II's love for her father, and stepping up to be a hero because his daughter exists in this world that he claims he doesn't care about...WONDERFUL!

And the SWERVE with Peacemaker... I really loved John Cena before this film, but this is where he actually impressed me with his acting ability. He excels at comedy, but that dark twist...that he goes from RIDICULOUS to being the VILLAIN of the movie...and then PAYS THAT ALL OFF IN THE TV SHOW!

Also...just from a direction/visual standpoint...that part where the floor Bloodsport is on falls until he's on the same floor as Peacemaker, and Gunn shoots it like a 2-D scroller fighting game, with this great divide between them, but now their roles have inverted...that's the best thing he's done

I prefer the sequel, but wouldn’t be critical of someone who had a different viewing experience with the first movie.

The death of The Weasel at the start was off-putting. I know fullwell what suicide squad is, but even still, that just felt like animal cruelty and didn't land for me. It was stronger than the 1st film, but it didn't quite click for me. (The reveal in the post credit scene was way too late.)

I really enjoyed it too. It felt so much closer to the actual comics and I appreciated that.
