Tonight’s dinner: angel hair pasta with some shrimp I stir fried and seasoned, with fresh basil, peppers and onions. Will pair nicely with tonight’s film: 1936’s “After The Thin Man”, the 2nd film in the series, with a young James Stewart in an atypical role.
Today is John Byrne’s birthday. This is a commission that I had gotten from him a long time ago. It’s a reimagining of his cover to “Uncanny X-Men” #134 from “The Dark Phoenix Saga”. He said he redrew Jean’s face because he wanted to show her descent into madness vs the original angry expression.
I see that “Northern Exposure” is available to stream on Prime. I’ve never seen the show, though I’ve heard positive reviews from those that have. Figured I’d give it a try while I have dinner on my day off (also took Friday off, as well, for a long weekend).
Amusing anecdote by Mark Hamill. Alec Guinness was like Laurence Olivier in that he didn’t want to be addressed as “Sir”, despite his knighthood, and told the “Star Wars” cast and crew that. Apparently, Hamill kept screwing up and calling him “Sir Alec”, and Guinness finally had enough.
Arrived today are issues 2, 4, 8, and 40 of “Josie”. Some nice early Silver Age comics. At HeroesCon, I purchased an oversized original page from issue 2 (1963), by Dan DeCarlo. Happy to have it in my collection. The BB gun ad in the back of one of the issues made me laugh. Ah, the 60’s!
On this day 61 yrs ago, Mutants were born. July 2, 1963 X-Men #1 was released
Here are the 3 copies of X-Men #1 I’ve had in my collection. I still have the 6.5
The 3.0 I got raw (no CGC) in 1996
The 4.5 bought in 2018
Traded them, some books, some $, for the 6.5 in 2020. Happy times

Tonight’s feature film: “Rope”, released in 1948 and was Hitchcock’s first color film. Stars James Stewart, with John Dall and Farley Granger’s characters modeled after the infamous Leopold and Loeb. A compelling thriller to watch to wind down this lazy Sunday.
Not sure whether it’s eerie or annoying or both that eBay sellers now send offers on items that were only viewed (not added to a watch list). Not liking that tracking.
“New” arrivals, today. “Elvira’s House of Mystery” #11, a nice addition to my Dave Stevens collection. Also, “Archie’s Pals ‘n’ Gals” #67. A nice early Bronze Age cover by Dan DeCarlo.
Was able to get all my work in, today, and now I don’t have to work on Saturday, for a change. Time to unwind with some dinner and watching an episode of “The Incredible Hulk”. You relax your way, and I’ll relax my way.
