Fr, the cult and worship of the military in the US is real. I respect veterans but there’s a difference and glorification aspect of unquestioning authority
It’s so stupid. And even more stupid is that our government is in their hands. Our prime minister promised an Auschwitz survivor to never ever collaborate with the fascist part. But the only way for our little smiley asslicker to grab the power was to do that. It’s such a shit show 😡
I remember in third grade thinking about how special the US was, in that unlike pretty much every other country in history, it had never fought a war of conquest.
I don't know that I'd ever been explicitly taught that by 70's-era Indiana public schools? I just kind of absorbed it somehow.
Even as late as freshman year of college, I was baffled by Central America. I couldn't understand why my government was training and funding what sure looked like terrorists, even though my camo-wearing and gun-toting buddies adamantly, maybe even desperately, called them "freedom-fighters."
Somewhere along the line I got my hands on a copy of The Chomsky Reader and a whole lot of stuff started making more sense.
I mean, I know the man is flawed, and that's a whole thing. But I'll always be grateful to him for helping me understand that the USA wasn't always the good guys.
