From the other place. English degrees in the Great British Bake Off tent!

Last week I attended the opening of the Inspired by Italy show at #18th c Beningbrough Hall. Literature students at York contributed brilliant creative responses and magnetic poetry prompts to Kate Somervell’s photographs of Venice. A real treat to see their work in such a gorgeous exhibition!

Despite trying to set my desk on fire this morning through a misjudged attempt at self care, I have now submitted my proofs!

This morning I lit a candle at my desk and then proceeded to set fire to a page of my book proofs. Happy Tuesday morning to me!

Big deadlines are looming, but I’m so excited to get started on this new book by Emma Donoghue, set at King’s Manor in York (where my office is), and featuring Anne Lister #18thc

If you happen to have a teenage child, do not under any circumstance show them your book acknowledgements, thinking it will be a heartfelt moment between parent and child. Trust me.

The plum tree in my allotment had about 15 plums on it in total this year and someone picked all of them. Not even a chance to get them in the ice box 😢
