How do you do that without creating downstream accounts on all the services? What happens if/when someone reacts/comments on a post on one of the federated services? Happy to look at your docs.

"[open] social web" gets my vote; it builds on the success and familiarity of "the web", and adds the context of people and social interactions. "A web of connections" is also easier to explain than "federation". Plus, people hear the alternative as "feta verse" on podcasts. 🧀

I don't think he cares. He only wants to build toys where he's at the center of everything. Decentralization personally offends him.

Only if you're insecure about interoperability.

I swiped left, which is how I expect to uncover message management controls, as on WhatsApp, Instagram, and X.

Oh! Look at that! Totally unintuitive! Thanks.

Got my first Bluesky DM spam! But how do I delete it? It's in my inbox but I can't interact with it. Maybe @pfrazee.com knows... 🤔
Avatar
Got it. Yeah, without a unified or compatible identity system, that would prove challenging — integrity requires a robust way to identify actors/people and content...
Avatar
What would true federation mean to you? But yes, the storage/identity models are quite different, so the content can proliferate, but it's hard to maintain integrity with accounts and content interactions...

Let's clarify things since my mentions are turning into a dumpster fire. I'm responsible for designing T&S policies, systems, and processes that scale. One of those areas is spam, since as the network grows, so does disruptive spam. That's why you can't mass spam people in mentions or replies.

The bridge is what allows the networks to federate, but since they run on different protocols, the bridge interpolates.

Ryan is a talented engineer doing important work in the #fediverse to bridge #ActivityPub and #ATProtocol. This is a big deal that brings us closer to the social web we all want.
When he built a bridge to connect #Bluesky to Mastodon and other ActivityPub-powered platforms, @snarfed.org ignited a new chapter for the #fediverse. The software engineer opens up to Mike McCue about his rollercoaster ride in the latest episode of Dot Social: about.flipboard.com/inside-flipb...

That's so weird. Back in my day, I just put the hashtags in my posts and they "worked". Kids these days.

Very accessible. Nice! And to prove that I read the whole thing, you have a typo: "neccesary".
