i will say that I think the stuff they're doing with proteins seems very interesting - but not a fan of almost anything I've seen in the art/culture/lit AI space

I remember seeing this when it won some competition and thinking it was pretty in that grandiose operatic Frank Frazetta–ish style I tend to like, but that's been about it.

Okay, fine, that one looks cool (at least until you zoom in on the details).

And even there, instead of melting faces and necks at 90 degree angles, just look up the work of Jeffrey Catherine Jones.
