This weeks thread. Skills. I don’t understand this, but what just happened is still familiar. So here’s a quick story.

I’m now 51. It hurts to write that, cos in my head I’m like 30. But with that many goes around the sun, certain patterns emerge. One is there’s always something I can do, that given enough time and effort is overcome.

I know half of life’s issues or wins are that I prioritized one thing over another, but as a hobby I do prioritize #locksport over others. Locksport means many things to many people. I’m not interested in engineering challenge locks. For me, it’s purely about picking.

So there’s a lock. American Locks makes something called the American 1100. It’s to locksport what trigonometry is to math. If you understand this, is my proves you understand every other concept up to this point.

We have “belts” like Karate/Judo/etc . You can pick a white or yellow belt lock and be “awarded” a belt. You work up to Orange, where I am now, then things change. To get my green belt, I need to not just pick, but pick & gut a lock on camera - and the lock doesn’t leave the frame the whole time.

And you can’t pick a yellow or orange belt lock. This is where the American 1100 comes in. So after 18 months of half hearted trying and failing then ignoring it for weeks at a time before trying for another half hour, this happened.

It took 18 months to get there. It took 20 mins to replicate. Then it took 24 hours.
