My experience being on the hiring committee of a law school is that white men, especially if confident, could get hired with much greater mediocrity than literally anyone else.
My law school actively DID try to get candidates from diverse backgrounds, but still it fell prey to the “I talk loudly and without taking time to think” curse.
Also, fuck the white men law profs who by and large left the work of managing students who needed help (in basically any capacity) to their female colleagues.
(If you do in fact help your students and, you know, stay in your office for your office hours and students come… this doesn’t apply to you. Just making that clear.)
