we don't need to argue about whether AI is effective at anything in insurance so long as the people who run insurance companies decide they want to commit to it. in fact, the less effective AI is — the more mistakes it makes — the more we *should* be concerned.

"algorithmic prior auth" isn't *necessarily* a bad thing — an algorithm that can decide "always approve procedure X if Y" with a two-minute response time is "good" for everyone — but the potential downside & obvious antisocial incentive seems much worse than the pot. benefit
