I am a hermit. But I did have a nice bouquet from my GP who read an old copy of The Book That Jack Wrote and said it was fantastic and I should write a follow up. I like to think she was sincere and not merely trying to cheer me up.

Every career / vocation / job is infinitely improved by this. It's certainly true for academia. BE A CHAMPION FOR YOUR PEOPLE. It's only a small step above the golden rule of "Don't Be A Dick." (Truly the lowest of entry bars...)

Strong agree. I’ll add: if you don’t have ready access to mentors and writer-encouragers, join a writers’ org. They are full of generous, knowledgeable, skilled people who will become invested in your success. For me it was mainly the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
