It used to be common for Japanese studios to make anime based on Western novels, including American ones. "Raccoon Rascal", "Anne of Green Gables", "Tom Sawyer", "Johnny Chuck" (titled "Rocky Chuck" in Japan), "Wizard of Oz", etc. I always thought that was interesting.

I think "Tristram Shandy" would be a hoot! :)
