Interesting question from Judd apatow on this podcast with birbigs:
“what was the trauma that made you turn to comedy?”
It’s an interesting question for anyone. I’m not a comedian per se but it’s definitely built into my voice. What about you folks?
I should probably answer it, too, huh. Aside from growing up with a bipolar mom and a suicide dad, catching bipolar myself and being committed into one of the worst mental institutions in the US. Actual joke from me to staff:
"I may have been committed here but at least I don't have to work here."
I’m sure they did, certainly a job where you’d want a robust sense of humour. But yes, very much harder for the patients, I remember visiting a friend in a psych ward, she was doing ok, but only just.
It’s the job with the highest assault rate in Washington state. Like at this point it’s passed all comedy. KUOW recently did a podcast that covers it, and it just pissed me off that nothing has changed in 15 years. I hope all those people quit.
That really doesn’t surprise me unfortunately. Would I be right in assuming the sector doesn’t get the funding and support they need to address this? I ask because that’s generally the way it is here
