I assume cuz they melt. I dunno what the fuck boiling water is gonna do to remove plastic. It floats out when it evaporates and they recollect it somehow? Huh
I looked up the article. Basically the plastic particles precipitate out with minerals in the water and can then be filtered. It works best with hard water and only removes about 25% from soft water. Basically the plastic particles get trapped in limescale

Think about the energy costs. It's insane. Think of all the fossil fuels that would be required to do this. I'm sure that the evil would outweigh any good.
